SKM creates ripples in Sikkim Assembly polls; wins 17 seats, leads on 2

Gangtok, May 23 (UNI) The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) was set to make a landslide victory in this North-Eastern state, winning 17 out of 32 seats and leading on two seats of Assembly polls, the results of which were declared on Thursday.
Founded by Prem Singh Tamang, better known as PS Golay on February 4, 2013, SKM has emerged as the largest opposition party in Sikkim, giving tough competition to the Sikkim Democratic Front, founded and led by former Chief Minister Pawan Chamling.
Acting President of SKM, Kunga Nima Lepcha won the Shyari seat by a margin of votes, defeating Karma Wangdi Bhutia of SDF by 1356 votes. He was also leading from Gangtok seat, making SDF's Pintso Chopel to trail by 886 votes.Arun Kumar Upreti, Secretary General of SKM, won from Arithang seat, defeating Independent nominee Ashis Rai by a margin of 474 votes.
