Situation tense on borders in Jammu, Samba, 13 civilians injured as Pak targets forward hamlets, BoPs

Jammu, May 22 (UNI) At least thirteen civilians on Tuesday sustained injuries as Pakistan shelled forward border hamlets and targeted more than 20 border outposts in Jammu and Samba sectors.
“Pakistan forces again heavily shelled forward villages in RS Pura, Arnia and adjoining Ramgarh sectors along the International Border and is still continuing," official sources here said on Tuesday.
They said that Pakistani Rangers resumed heavy mortar shelling in Arnia sector after a few hours break around 1900 hours on Monday, which lasted throughout the day and is still continuing.
“So far thirteen civilians have suffered injuries in RS Pura, Ramgarh and Arnia sectors,” official sources said.
They said that three civilians seriously injured in Ramgarh sector of Samba while others in RS Pura, Arnia and Hiranagar belts.
“Pakistan have also opened front in Kanachak area on Tuesday evening,” sources added.
Some of the injured were identified as Thoru Ram, 68, son of Sansar Singh of Raipur Saidian, Vipan Choudhary, son of Bawa Ram and Des Raj,52, son of Lal Chand.
They have been shifted to the Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu.
District Administration has made elaborate arrangements to provide basic facilities to those migrated to temporary shelter camps established at RS Pura and Arnia in government buildings.
Around 500 villagers hit by border firing are camping in these shelters.
Police and BSF personnel besides district administration men are on job and shifting injured to the hospital while people have been shifted to the safer locations.
On Monday five people including a policeman suffered injuries while an infant also died in Pallanwala sector.
Pakistani Rangers also opened fronts in the adjoining Ramgarh and RS Pura sectors.
“Over 20 Border outposts and villagers of 30 border hamlets were targeted with 120 mm mortars by Pakistan forces and the frequency is enhanced considerably,” said a BSF official.
He said that BSF is retaliating with same calibre while no report of any causality has been reported so far from the Indian side.
Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti also visited to border areas on Monday and met with the families of border firing victims.
On May 18, a BSF jawan was martyred and four civilians were killed in the firing in Arnia and RS Pura sectors.
