Guwahati, Dec 14 (UNI) The protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in Assam appeared to be slowing down, as no untoward incident was reported in the last 12 hours on Saturday.
However, the ban on internet would continue till Monday.
The All Assam Students Union (AASU) has suspended their agitation after 1700 hrs.
Major towns of Assam, including Dibrugarh and Tinsukia, where the protests took an ugly turn, were peaceful on Saturday.
Curfew was relaxed from 0900 hrs to 1600 hrs in Guwahati and from 0800 hrs to 1400 hrs in Dibrugarh town.
Tinsukia, Golaghat and Charaideo remained under night curfew, while in Jorhat, the curfew hours were brought down to 2200 hrs to 0600 hrs.
The Army and the Assam Rifles continued to assist the civil administration in various parts, to restore normalcy.
Indefinite curfew under Tezpur and Dhekiajuli police station areas in Sonitpur district was also relaxed from 0900 hrs to 1700 hrs, Sonitpur Deputy Commissioner Manabendra Pratap Singh said.
