Srinagar, Oct 23 (UNI) Claiming that there has been a major shift in the situation in Jammu and Kashmir in the last four months, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday said that efforts are being made to engage youth constructively and make J&K a developed state.
Mr Singh said this after reviewing the security situation in the state, during a high-level meeting with Governor Satya Pal Malik and other top senior security force and civil administration officers.
'There has been a decrease in the number of stone pelting incidents. Also, I have got information that there has been a fall in the number of militant recruitment in the state,' Mr Singh told reporters during a press conference here.
The Union Minister said from the last couple of months, the Centre and the state government have been working to engage the youth constructively.
'Total 11,000 youth will be given employment in the state through the Home Ministry. The initiative will be implemented in the state in different stages,' he said.
The Union Minister said work to give employment to 2.5 lakh youth in the state by the Centre is also in progress. 'The Centre will support the youth of J&K, so that they achieve success in their lives,' he added.
He said the state has not been able to achieve the status of a developed state since Independence.
'The Centre is putting all its efforts to bring J&K in the list of developed states in the country,' he added.
Asserting that corruption has been a major cause of concern in Jammu and Kashmir, he said the state government has made an action plan to eradicate corruption. However, Mr Singh didn't give any details about the steps to be taken to eradicate corruption.
'The state government has already come up with a plan and you will soon come to know about it,' he added.
