Sitharaman to address Army Commanders’ Conference next week

New Delhi, Oct 6 (UNI) Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will address the Army Commanders’ Conference, scheduled to take place from October 9-15, to discuss issues pertaining to operations, logistics, administrations and others.

Talking to reporters here, Lt Gen Vijay Singh, Director, General Staff Duties, said, “The conference is an Army level forum for issue-based discussions and is presided over by the Chief of Army Staff and attended by all Army Commanders, Principal Staff Officers and Director Generals.”

It is being expected that a thorough discussion on the standoff between Indian and Chinese troops in Doklam that lasted for two months will also be held.

The conference will be held in two segments.

In the first and plenary segment which is scheduled from October 9-12, the Army Commanders are expected to discuss current and emerging perspectives on issues related to operations, logistics, administration, human resources management and welfare of troops, Lt Gen Singh said.

This time each Army Command will put forth their viewpoints and concerns on various issues which have a bearing on the field formations and the Indian Army as a whole.

In this segment, the Principal Staff Officers of Integrated Headquarters of Ministry of Defence (Army) will provide updates on contemporary issues and also give considered responses on issues raised by respective Army Commands.

The Army officials will also interact with the Ministry of Defence personnel, including Defence Secretary Sanjay Mitra.

In the second segment, the Army Commanders will discuss Military Secretary’s Branch matters.

The Special Selection Board for promotion to the rank of Lieutenant General and nomination of officers for the National Defence College Course and Advanced Professional Program in Public Administration Course will also be carried out.

The conference is a biennial feature held every year in April and October.
