Sitharaman's announcements disappointing, Govt clueless on economy: Cong

New Delhi, Sept 14 (UNI) Terming the announcements made by the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman as 'disappointing', the Congress on Saturday charged the Narendra Modi government for failing to address the problems facing the Indian economy.
The party said that the BJP and its ministers lack a vision to revive the economy.
Moments after Ms Sitharaman concluded her press conference, senior Congress leader Anand Sharma, while addressing mediapersons at AICC headquarters, said that "India’s economy is in shambles. We are facing a grave situation but the government with its false promises and its outspoken ministers, are not working towards stopping that".
"Finance Minister just concluded a press conference. It was disappointing. Looking at India’s economic situation, it was expected that government will take steps to resuscitate economy, increase investments, create jobs, address issue of exports", Mr Sharma said.
Mr Sharma stated that unless the government invests, reviving economy seems difficult.
"But no such announcements were made by the Sitharamanji. And till the time public investment is not there economic revival is not possible," he said."The Finance Minister did not announce any measures that would address the current economic situation. The BJP and its ministers lack a vision to revive the economy", he added.
Earlier, the Finance minister said that revival signs are being seen in industrial production and fixed investment and added that inflation has been kept under 4 per cent.
Criticising Ms Sithararaman for her 'millennials' statement, Mr Sharma said "no Finance Minister before this has made such an insulting remark under a difficult economic situation".
BJP ministers have been making shocking statements insulting the youth. The Finance Minister said that the millennials are responsible for the economic slowdown and has not apologised for her statement so far.'
Questioning the government's claim over five trillion dollar economy, Mr Sharma said, "the five trillion dollar economy seems like a distant dream. In their six-year tenure they have only gone further by 0.7 trillion dollars".
Pointing out at the country's situation, the Congress spokesperson said that there is an atmosphere of disappointment and fear in the country.
"People are losing faith and this will deeply damage our democracy. It is not about a few citizens. It is about the Democracy. I am referring to the recent issue of Jammu and Kashmir. It is about the fundamental rights of the citizens, political leaders, Congress leaders. It is expected that the judiciary will do justice", he said.
The Congress leader also said that legal institutions have been stalling a lot a important matters and added that "doing that invites global flak, and Indian citizens, for whom it is a matter of their fundamental rights, are also disheartened".
