SIT to investigate Ambedkar statue vandalisation incident: SC commission

Chandigarh, Sept 20 (UNI) The Punjab police constituted Special Investigation Team (SIT) on the directions of the Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission, to expedite the investigation into Dr B R Ambedkar vandalisation incident at Rajpura.
Disclosing this here on Friday, Chairperson of Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission Tejinder Kaur said that Senior Superintendent of Police Patiala has submitted preliminary report into the matter.
She further said that as per the findings of the report, the statue had been damaged by unknown persons. She informed that police have taken finger prints from the incident site besides collecting a dump of mobile phones.
According to the Chairperson, the report reads that the defaced statue was being replaced with the new one.
She assured that accused would be detained soon as the SIT has been given one month to investigate the matter.
She added that stringent legal action would be taken against the culprits.
