Bengaluru, Jul 16 (UNI) Amid political turmoil in Karnataka with JD(S)-Congress coalition government facing a deep crisis due to spate of resignations by MLAs, Congress legislator and rebel leader Roshan Baig was detained in connection with multi-crore IMA ponzi scheme scam.
The Special Investigative Team (SIT) detained the former Minister when he was preparing to fly to Mumbai in a chartered flight late on Monday night from Kempegowda International Airport in the city. He is the first politician to be detained by the SIT in the IMA scam in which thousands of vulnerable small investors were allegedly deceived by the firm accept deposits offering high returns.
Baig was summoned to appear before SIT yesterday but he sought time to appear on July 25. However, SIT had asked him to produce himself for questioning in the IMA scam on July 19. Meanwhile, he allegedly tried to fly to Mumbai when SIT team detained him.
