Singhi Park Sarbojonin Durga Puja committee celebrating its 78th year of Durgotsav

Kolkata, Sep 20 (UNI) This year Singhi Park Sarbojonin Durga Puja committee is celebrating its 78th year of Durgotsav.
Singhi Park, this year, is making an effort to revive the ancient culture as well as to instill a sense of nostalgia amongst everyone.
Like every year, famous sculptor, Pradip Rudra Pal , is going to be creating our Durga Pratima, lightings by done by Pintu electrical (Chandannagar) and Bose Electricals (Kolkata) will complement the “pratima”by portraying Maa Durga as the perfect embodiment of feminine’s creative energy.
The Puja pandal, through the visionary eyes of our theme artist, Mithun Dutta, will be decorated with various “patachitra”using saree, paper pulp, wood architecture , etc along with diffused LED lights to give the whole ambience a rustic flavor.
A theme song composed by famous percussionist and tabla player Pandit Subhen Chatterjee will complement the whole ambience.
Patachitra is the general term for traditional cloth based scroll painting. It owes its origin mainly to West Bengal and Orissa way back in the 13th century. The artists engrossed in the art of making Pata are known as Chitrakars. These folk artists or Chitrakars used to illustrate their beliefs and songs through these patas.
The main subject of interest in these illustrations are mythological stories and tribal life as well as the portrayal of social messages on contemporary events. However interest in this art form has faded out over time.
Singhi Park in all its celebrations is trying to make people familiar with this unique art form.
Also this year in Singhi Park, our childhood memories will come rushing back to us, hitting us with an utmost sense of nostalgia and love towards our childhood days in the form of lighting decorations.
"The entry gate will feature the famous London Watch Tower. It will be followed by our very own cartoon characters such as Tom and Jerry, Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, which will force our inner kid to resurface in this joyous festival. Next, will be every kid’s favourite God, Lord Ganesha, showering his blessings on us. Lastly, the exit gate will be portraying a huge Pineapple Tree," a senior Puja committee member said.
Singhi Park, in its 78th year, is going to be filled with love, laughter, friendship, union and above all the celebration of Maa Durga in all her glory.
"We are confident that like every year , this year also we will be a huge crowd puller and will be able to celebrate this festival with utmost pride and grandeur,"
the Puja committee member added.
