Sindhu's next aim - Gold at Tokyo Olympics

Sindhu's next aim - Gold at Tokyo Olympics

New Delhi, Sep 10 (UNI) After clinching the BWF World Championship title recently, Olympic silver medalist PV Sindhu on Tuesday said her single-point focus right now, is to get a gold medal for the country, at the next year's Tokyo Olympics.
"I want to move forward step-by-step. There are a lot of tournaments till the Olympics and I have to maintain my good performance. Right now, my focus is on China and Korea Open, for which I am preparing very hard,' Sindhu said, while attending the award ceremony of PNB MetLife Junior Badminton Championship season 5, here at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium.
The Olympic silver medalist had become the first Indian to win gold at the BWF World Championship, after defeating Japan's Nozomi Okuhara in the finals. She is the second woman after Zhang Ning, to win five or more medals at the world championships.

In addition to that, she has won a silver medal each at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and 2018 Asian Games, and two bronze medals at the Uber Cup.
When asked whether she felt pressure before the finals of BWF World Championship, the ace shuttler said, 'When you get down to play on the court, there is always pressure and responsibility. The world title has strengthened my morale for the Olympics. I always believe in playing my game and don't put unnecessary pressure on myself. "
Sindhu also credited her foreign coach Kim Ji Hyun for her glittering performance, saying "Well, she definitely had a lot (of impact on me) because she has been here for a few months.
"She had a few changes in her mind and I think that really helped me. We worked on that, of course under the guidance of Gopi (P Gopichand) sir and it went very well. I have really improved a lot on skills and a lot more needs to be done," she added.
Earlier, the Badminton champion also felicitated the winners and runners-up of PNB MetLife Junior Badminton Championship (JBC) season 5, in the five age categories- U-9, U-11, U-13, U-15 and U-17.
While interacting with the children, Sindhu said 'The huge number of participants from every corner of the country stand testimony to the admiration that this sport has earned.
'The sheer quality of game play and technique showcased by these young shuttlers, prove that the country is bubbling with talent, which need to be harnessed, to drive India as a world leader in the sport,' she added.
The event also marked the rising popularity of JBC Boot Camp – a tailor-made YouTube channel, hosting tutorial programmes, to help budding shuttlers, to hone their skills through online lessons on techniques and excel in the game, with the help of tips and tricks from professional coaches, including PV Sindhu, U Vimal Kumar, Vijay Lancy and Anup Sridhar.
Since its launch two months ago in Hyderanad, JBC Boot Camp has received a tremendous response from the badminton enthusiasts across the country, with more than 12,000 subscribers and above 2.2 million views in a span of just two months.
