Sikkim wins Oscar for Best policies among 25 nations: CM to be honoured on Oct 15 in Rome

Gangtok, Oct 12 (UNI) Sikkim has won Oscar Award for Best Policies. The World Future Policy (WFP) Award, is for the best policies on Agroecology and Sustainable food systems.
The WFP is giving the Award in association with Food & Agriculture Organization, UNO (FAO) and IFOM, with the support of Green Cross International, Duch Organic International Trade and Sekem group, Egypt.
As per their announcement,''The 100 pc Organic State Sikkim in India is this years winner of the ‘Oscar for best policies. Beating 51 nominated policies from 25 countries Sikkim, the first Organic State in the World will be getting Gold.
‘This year’s World Future Policy Award honours exceptional policies adopted by political leaders who have decided to act, no longer accepting widespread hunger, poverty or environmental degradation. They are committed to better food and agriculture systems and have achieved unimaginable change ’ commented Lousie Luttikholt ,Executive Director International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements ( IFOAM-Organics Intrnational).
‘One of them is Sikkim’s Chief Minister Pawan Chamling who set an ambitious vision and achieved it:Sikkim has become the First Organic State in the World -100 pc Organic is no longer a pipe dream but a reality,serving as an outstanding role model for others to follow,’he added.
Brazil, Denmark and Quito (Equador) will be getting Silver.
It is to be mentioned here that the Organic movement in Sikkim was launched by Chief Minister Pawan Chamling from 2003 onwards.
From 2010 certification of Agrarian landholdings was started and in 2016 January Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared it as the Organic Farming State.

Mokahda tribal dies after receivingnotice from Forest dept
