Sikkim setting up BPOs to curb unemployment

Gangtok, Aug 16 (UNI) Sikkim Department of Commerce and Industries led by its Industry Minister BS Panth are promoting setting up of Business Process Outsourcing (BPOs) to curb the menace of unemployment in the state.
Union ministry of information technology is partner of the Sikkim government in this activity.
The programme once operative should prove a boon for the hard working youth aspiring to serve in a new sector.
'It is a new scheme, being started afresh, with new enthusiasm so that unemployed get jobs. We will pursue the programme vigrously and with great sincerity. Besides creating employment opportunities for the youth it will also offer opportunities for the entrepreneurs. The STPI centre set up earlier here (2007) has not been functioning at its best. Now we want to do it seriously for the economic benefit of the society," Mr Panth said.
Registered Indian Companies (Under 1956/2013 Companies Act ) with annual turnover of Rs 1 Crore are eligible to bid for 25 seats. They are provided 50 pc of expenditure per seat with 1 Lakh limit. Those starting the BPOs /ITES in Sikkim will also be given 7.5 pc incentive for employing women and 2 pc incentive for employing 4 pc specially enabled persons.5% incentive for local entrepreneur.
Devesh.Tyagi,Senior Director Software Technology Parks of India ( STIP)said Sikkim Govt will be providing the space in the Tadung ( Old SikkimJewel’s ) office premises. The process of starting a BPO involves taking part in bidding when it is advertised. Those with annual turnover of Rs 1 crore can participate in the process.
