Sikkim CM chaired coordination meeting of Power Dept

Gangtok, Jan 25 (UNI) The Chief Minister PS Tamang chaired a coordination meeting of Power Department, here on Saturday. He was joined by Minister for Energy & Power MN Sherpa. CM asked the engineers, from Assistant to upper most level to share the issues faced by them. The situation has been created due to erratic power supply.
CM asked the Officers to compile a Report on the amount of funds already drawn for maintenance and the way those have been utilized. ‘Energy and Power Department is the Revenue Deptt. Revenue should be realized sincerely. So, besides collection of cash, a target has to be fixed
to avoid defaulters in future’, said CM.
CM Tamang has already decided to arrange to get funds required.
‘Power deptt has been facing difficult situation due not non collected dues. Govt is ready to pay approximately Rs 38 crores, as the Departments have not paid Electricity dues. This will be included in the coming Budget and paid to Power Deptt to pay in turn to Govt.But ,steps to collect dues should be taken by the concerned,’ he said.
He also hinted at Govt considering rescuing 6 to 7 sick power projects by privatizing those. He agreed to Power Secretary’s demand for Rs 20 crores for upgradation of Power Stations, subject to
condition of regular power supply next 2021 winters. On demand for vehicles for field staff, CM suggested Bikes for Junior Engineers. Finally, it was decided to set up a High level Committee to
solve the problems faced by the Energy and Power sector.
