Sikkim, Bengal sign landmark transport pact

Gangtok, Jul 10 (UNI) Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on Friday welcomed the signing of the Reciprocal Transport Agreement between Sikkim and West Bengal, saying it resolves several long-pending issues affecting transport operators.
He said the agreement doubles the countersignature permit quota for Sikkim taxis from 3,000 to 6,000, allows taxis operating under Special Permits to pick up passengers on their return journey from Siliguri and nearby areas, and abolishes the countersignature permit requirement for Sikkim-based vehicles operating between Rangpo and Melli, easing movement and improving regional connectivity.
