Sikh devotees offers prayer on Indo Pak IB

Gurdaspur, Jan 17 (UNI) To get free access to Gurdwara Kartarpu Sahib in Pakistan from Indian border town of Dera Baba Nanak, Sikh devotees led by Kartarpur Sahib Ravi Darshan Abhilashi Sanstha under the aegis of Veteran Akali leader Kuldeep Singh Wadala offered monthly prayers on Indo Pak International border on Wednesday.
It was the 204th prayer which is organised on the occasion of every Amavasya.

Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib, constructed in the sacred memory of First Guru of Sikhism, Guru Nanakdev Ji, was left behind in Pakistan during the Indo -Pak Partition in 1947. This Gurdwara is just 3 km away from the border town of Dera Baba Nanak in Gurdaspur district, where Guru Nanak Dev used to cultivate agricultural land and had spent 17 years of his life.
He died at Kartarpur where a Gurdwara was constructed in his sacred memory before the Partition.

The Border Security Force (BSF) had constructed a darshan sthal on Indo-Pak border to provide facility for the devotees to visit Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan besides a canteen for the pilgrims who come from different parts of the country and abroad every day.

The Kartarpur Sahib Ravi Darshan Abhilashi Sanstha had been seeking free access from Dera Baba Nanak to Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib, and for this purpose, its deputation had already met former Prime Ministers of both countries who had expressed their sympathy.

The Union government led by then Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh had sent then External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukerjee to review the possibility to provide a corridor to Sikh devotees.

The Sanstha also visited Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan a number of times and spent lakhs of rupees on the Karsewa (Renovation work) on the Gurdwara.

Besides, a number of Sikh organisations from India and abroad visited the spot to seek free corridor from Dera Baba Nanak.

The prominent people who performed ardas include Kuldeep Singh Wadala, Gurinder Singh Bajwa and Jasbir Singh Jaffarwal on the occasion. They said their organisation had started the prayers at nearby fencing line on the occasion of Baisakhi in 2001 which has continued.
