Sidhu launches Bus Rapid Transit project

Amritsar, Jan 28 (UNI) Punjab Local Government, Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu on Monday launched the much awaited Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) project, which includes 93 AC buses and world level metro bus terminal on the two routes.
The project worth Rs 545 crore is the result of the collaboration of Punjab and Union Government and is currently being run in Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Surat, Pune, Rajkot, Vijaywada, Indore, Bhubneshwar, Raipur, Vishakhapatnam, Bhopal and Hubli cities across the country.
Mr Sidhu announced that these buses would provide free travel facility for three months to the people. After this, the school children would be provided this facility free of cost, College students would get 66 per cent exemption, Senior Citizens and Divyang people would be eligible for 50 per cent concession in travel. The people would be able to travel without limit in one day by getting a card made for mere Rs 25.

HC stays HP govt move to shift RERA from Shimla to Dharamshala

Shimla, July 17 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh High Court has stayed the state government’s bid to relocate the Himachal Pradesh Real Estate Regulatory Authority (HP RERA) office from Shimla to Dharamshala, granting interim relief in the second Public Interest Litigation (PIL) now pending before the same division bench that is already examining delays in RERA appointments and the extension of Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena.

Army preserves room into museum once used by 1971 war hero Flying Officer Nirmal Sekhon

Srinagar, July 17 (UNI) The Indian Army has preserved a room once used by Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon — a 1971 war hero and the only Indian Air Force officer to receive the Param Vir Chakra — into a museum at the Badami Bagh Cantonment in Srinagar.

Punjab Police foil cross-border arms smuggling plot; One arrested

Chandigarh, July 17 (UNI) Punjab Police's Counter-Intelligence unit in Amritsar has unearthed a significant cross-border arms smuggling operation, arresting one suspect and recovering a consignment of ten .30 bore pistols with magazines, while confirming the involvement of a Pakistan-based smuggler, officials said today.
