Siddaramaiah slams Centre for ignoring FRP hike, ethanol benefits

Bengaluru, Nov 8 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday accused the central government of "betraying" sugarcane farmers by failing to ensure fair prices despite good yields and increased ethanol blending.
In a detailed letter to union Minister Pralhad Joshi, Siddaramaiah said the artificial manipulation of recovery rates and the negligible rise in the Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) have left farmers in distress.
The Chief Minister highlighted that while the FRP has increased from ₹210 per quintal in 2014 to ₹355 today, this represents a meagre compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.47 per cent. He noted that during the two terms of the NDA government, FRP increases have been insufficient, causing farmers to incur significant losses over the years.
