Shutters of Mullaperiyar dam opened, releases 7,140 cubic feet of water per second

Idukki, Dec 8 (UNI) With the raising of more shutters, about 7,140 cubic feet of water per second is being discharged from the total nine shutters of Mullaperiyar dam, operated by Tamil Nadu, on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, following incessant rains lashing in catchment areas, one of the shutters of Idukki-Cheruthoni dam was also raised by 40 cm releasing 40,000 litres water per second.
Due to heavy discharge of water from the Mullaperiyar dam, the shutter of Idukki Cheruthoni dam was raised to release excess water causing increase of water level in Periyar river.

Slained Neha's father links her daughter's murder to 'Love Jihad'

Hubballi, April 19 (UNI) Niranjan Hiremath, a Congress Corporator and father of the late MCA student Neha Hiremath, who was tragically murdered on Thursday, has linked the incident to "love jihad."
Addressing the media on Friday, Hiremath expressed concern over what he perceives as the rapid spread of "love jihad" and urged mothers to accompany their college-going daughters for their safety.
