New Delhi, Mar 11 (UNI) India's Manu Bhaker missed the third medal at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup women's 25m pistol event in the World Cup, while Akhil Sheoran shot a gold medal in men's 50m rifle 3-position event.
So far, Manu's performance was excellent in Mexico's Guadalajara, but after she got in the third final in the tournament, she missed the medal and registered the fifth spot. Earlier, Manu clinched gold in women's 10 meter pistol single and mixed team event.
Earlier in the day, Akhil scored another gold medal and kept India in top in the table. India is at the top with a total of nine medals, with four gold, one silver and four bronze medals. China is second with two gold, two silver and one bronze.
Akhil bagged gold in men's 50 meter rifle 3 Positions (3P) in the tournament in Guadalajara. He was the fourth youngest shooter in India to win gold in the World Cup. Prior to them, Shahar Rizvi, Manu Bhakar, Mehuli Ghosh and Anjum Mudgil won medals for India in the tournament.
Akhil secured 455.6 points in the finals and left Bernard Pickle of Austria (452) in second place.
Earlier, in the qualification round, all the shooters set up 40 shots, and Rajput finished second with 1176 points after Penny (1178). Akhil remained fourth in the list with 1174 points, while the other Indian, Swapnil Kusala, was on seventh position with 1168 points and successful in three Indians qualifying in eight finalists.
In prone to round Sanjeev Rajput scored 398 of 400, while Akhil had the strongest Kneeling round among the eight with scores of 392 each. Swapnil had the strongest Standing round among the three Indians with a 390 which was the second best in the position among all qualifiers.
At the end of 40-shots, Raynaud and the Chinese shooter Fu were the first two to be eliminated while Rajput’s slide continued and Swapnil moved up to fifth. Akhil was still leading the field, now a comfortable 2.3 points clear of the Austrian Pickl who had moved up to second.
Earlier, Manu qualified for the 25 meter pistol final with 581 points. In the qualifying round, eight top women qualified for the finals. Anu Raj Singh qualified with 575 points, but remained 10th. In the final, Ana Korakaki of the former Olympic champion Greece and Bronze winner of the Rio Olympics, Hadi Gerber of Switzerland, was also included in the third and sixth place respectively.
Ana won her first World Cup gold medal in precision shooting 29 out of 50 shots while German player Doreen Wenicamp got Silver and Mathilde bronze medal.
Rashmi Rathore won 109 out of 125 marks in women's skeet competition and remained best at 19th position. Maheshwari Chauhan (103), 22, while Sania Sheikh (101) remained 23rd.
