Kolkata, Jan 17 (UNI) Third seed in Girls Singles Under 18, Shivani Amineni of India drubs
fellow Indian Kaavya Sawhney to enter the quarter final of the ongoing DKS ITF Juniors
2018, been held at the red clay courts of the Dakshin Kalikata Sansad here today
Amineni took about 1 hr and 35 minutes to outclass unseeded Sawhney by a straight
6-4,7-5. She will face Shrivalli Bhamidipaty, another unseeded Indian in the quarter finals
tomorrow.
Top seed in Boys Singles Under 18, Yassir Kilani from Morocco proved to be too powerful
and consistent for Belgium's Gauthier Onclin as the former won by 6-3,7-5 in about 1 hr and
15 minutes. Kilani will meet Pengyu Lu of China, tomorrow in the quarter final.
Local girl Yubarani Banerjee failed to meet the expectations of the cheering crowd as she
went down fighting against Jade Bornay of France, who had created the major upset in
Round 1 by drubbing top seeded Nirundorn. Bornay pocketed the first set by a close 7-5,
which witnessed a series of service breaks. In the second, it looked more like a one-sided
battle as Bornay took 5 straight games from been 0-1 down. Bornay won the match by
7-5,6-2.
All the four Indians in the pre-quarter finals of the Boys Singles Under 18 draw, Abhimanyu Vannemreddy, Nikit Reddy, Karan Srivastava and Dev Javia failed to keep the flag flying as
they made an early exit today.
