Shidhin murder : Lifer for 9 CPI(M) workers

Kannur, Aug 14 (UNI) Thalassery Additional District Sessions Court on Wednesday sentenced nine CPI(M) activists to life imprisonment for their involvement in the murder of a CPI(M) worker Shidhin near Thalassery in 2013.
Sessions Court Judge P N Vinod also slapped a fine of Rs one lakh each against them.
The fine amount would be paid to the victim's parents. If the accused failed to pay fine, they would have to undergo an additional six months imprisonment.
CPI(M) workers ---Brito (32), Nikhil Raj (28), M Dheeraj (26), Dhilnesh (27), PK Nihal (25), Midhun (31), Shabin (28), K Amal Kumar (25) and V K Sojith (25), all hailing from nearby areas of Thalassery, were sentenced to life imprisonment.
Among the convicts, Brito, Midhun and Sojith were also accused in a case of attempt to murder of rebel CPI-M leader C O T Nazeer in May this year.
It was on October 4, 2013 night, Shidhin (20) was attacked by a gang following an internal dispute between two CPI(M) groups. He succumbed to his injuries at a hospital,
