Sheena Bora murder case referred to CBI

New Delhi/Mumbai, Sep 18 (UNI) The controversial Sheena Bora case was today referred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) after the Maharashtra government made a request in this regard to the Centre, sources disclosed. According to the CBI sources, the request has been made by the Maharashtra government to the Home Ministry and now it is up to them to transfer the case to the CBI. Addressing mediapersons in Mumbai, Maharashtra Additional Chief Secretary (Home) K P Bakshi said, ''This is not a simple case of murder as there could be financial dealings in the Sheena Bora murder. We have requested the Centre to get the investigation done by CBI. Now, it is up to them to accept our request and hand over the case.to CBI.'' According to the information available here, the decision follows speculation going on for some time that the former police chief of Mumbai Rakesh Maria’s transfer was linked with the Sheena murder case. This was in the air despite the Maharashtra government's declaration that Mr Rakesh Maria would be heading the investigation, playing the "supervisory" role. However, the confusion caused in this regard refuse to disappear. Maria's transfer came about on September 8, when he was promoted the DG (Home Guards). He was replaced by DG-rank officer Ahmad Javed, which led to the rumour that the Maharashtra Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, was not satisfied with the way Mr Maria was handling the Sheena Bora murder case. The murder of Sheena Bora, media baron Peter Mukerjea's wife Indrani Mukerjea's daughter from an earlier marriage, led to Indrani's arrest on August 25 on suspicion of her involvement in the killing.
