New Delhi, Jul 19 (UNI) Remembering the freedom fighter Mangal Pandey on his 193rd birth anniversary, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said that he was front runner of 1857 revolt which had shaken the British rule during that time.
Taking to twitter, he said “Mangal Pandey ji was forerunner of the 1857 Revolution which had completely shaken the British rule in India at that time. His patriotism, sacrifices inspired millions of Indian to participate in the freedom struggle. Rich tribute to him on his birth anniversary”.
Mangal Pandey was an Indian soldier who played a key part in the events immediately preceding the outbreak of the Indian rebellion of 1857. He was a sepoy in the 34th Bengal Native Infantry regiment of the British East India Company.
