Srinagar, Jan 19 (UNI) Security forces on Saturday afternoon conducted surprise searches of vehicles and frisking of people in the civil lines, including historic Lal Chowk, the nerve centre of the summer capital.
As the shopkeepers were busy attending their customers and transport was plying normally, security forces and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police sealed all roads between Gantaghar-Lal Chowk and Court road in the civil lines this afternoon.
All vehicles - private and passenger - were searched properly and their occupants, including drivers frisked before allowing them to go after checking their identity cards in the area, where militants of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) lobbed a hand grenade on CRPF yesterday after Friday prayers.
However, no one was injured in the attack, second in the city since Thursday evening when three police personnel were wounded in similar attack.
Security forces also conducted searches in shops and other buildings in the area, particularly Court Road. Two and three wheelers were also searched. The two wheeler riders were allowed to go only after checking their identity cards and vehicle documents.
Security forces also conducted frisking of people who were present in the area when it was sealed.
Security forces are conducting random searches and frisking in the civil lines before every important day, particularly Republic Day (RD) and Independence Day (ID).
A high alert has also been issued in the Kashmir valley, including Srinagar city, following inputs about the militant plan to carry out attack on security and other important installation on or before RD function which will be held at S K Cricket Stadium since revocation of Bakshi stadium was going on for the past few years.
However, militants struck at five different places since Thursday targeting security forces by hurling hand grenades at Lal Chowk, Zero Bridge, Shopian, Pulwama and Anantnag.
