Separate unit set up in Amritsar passport office to help deserted wives

Amritsar, Dec 24 (UNI) A separate unit has been set up in Regional Passport Office Amritsar to help all those wives of Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Firozpur, Fazilka, Faridkot and Sri Muktsar Sahib districts whose NRI husbands have deserted them.
There are about 30,000 to 40,000 cases in Punjab where NRI husbands allured Punjabi girls on the pretext of taking them abroad on family visa. They married these girls, stayed together for about less than one week to about more than 10 years and then flee abroad taking away huge amount and jewellery etc. from them.
These wives are then sent out from her in-laws house and now they are residing with their parents, some of them with their children also. In most of the cases, they keep quite as they do not find any way and waiting for their husbands to return but their wait has become endless.
