Sep 17th as Liberation day is incorrect but palimpsesting the history: Nizams’s grandson

Hyderabad, Sept 17 (UNI) Nizam’s grandson Najaf Ali Khan on Tuesday claimed that the September 17th as the ''Liberation day'' is not only incorrect but also ''palimpsesting the history'', a statement said.

Responding over the celebration of Telangana Liberation day by various political parties in the state, Mr Khan said Liberation means liberating from foreign yoke or from foreign rules but the Nizam was not a foreigner and hence, how the liberation day would arise, he questioned.
It is equally incorrect to say that the monarchial rule of Nizam came to an end and ushered in democracy, he said there was no participation of the people and much less of politicians.
On September 17, Nizam VII, Mir Osman Ali Khan had visited Radio Deccan first time and addressed the people that he had ordered the surrender of Hyderabad Army and invited Indian army to enter Hyderabad city, he further claimed.
However, the physical surrender of Hyderabad army took place at 1600 hrs on September 18 but due to curfew claimed in Hyderabad on September 17, there is no question of People’s participation much less inviting invading Indian army.

The wounds of September 17th military attack are still deep and fresh, he said ‘it is not a liberation day but the day of genocide’, the implications of which can be felt even today.

On September 17, 1948 when Indian army invaded Hyderabad state , the same day Nizam VII surrendered his army, he also claimed and said the aftermath of the police action (Military invasion) kwnon as “ operation polo” by the Indian army on Hyderabad state in September, 1948 , the government of India sent a fact finding committee called “ the Pnadit Sunder Lal committee” consisting of Pandi Sunderalal, Qazi Abdul Ghaffar, Maulana Adbulla Misri.

After completing their mission, the committee gave a detailed report to the central government and in which the committee speaks that the ‘common man massacred by the Indain army in the Hyderabad state. The name ‘ Operation Polo’ is also known in the history as ‘Police action was a Military invasion’.

''We regret that 71-years have passed, the Committee report was not tabled in the parliament'', the Nizam’s grandson said and urged the government to be declassified and brought to ‘public domain.
