Seoul mulls taking 'maximum' quarantine steps to contain coronavirus

Seoul, Feb 25 (UNI) South Korea is planning to take "maximum" quarantine steps to curb coronavirus spread, government officials said on Tuesday.
The government and the presidential office have decided to implement stepped-up "containment" measures in Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province, where the number of infections of COVID-19 increased sharply in recent days.
The government's announcement created panic and speculation as to whether this amounted to a complete lock down of Daegu vis-a-vis Wuhan in China, Yonhap said in a report. The government, however, made it clear that maximum containment measures simply meant beefing up the quarantine efforts, and does not connote isolation of lock down. These measures would include supply of free face masks to the people especially the poor and a total ban on the export of face masks. Apart from this the government is also mulling over cancelling all large scale gatherings and events which are more prone to spreading the virus.
