Sensex slumps by 505.13 pts on weak global gues amidst fears over

Mumbai, Sep 17 (UNI) The benchmark index of Bombay Stock Exchange
(BSE) tanked on Monday by 505.13 points to end negative at
37,585.51 as the domestic market sentiment dampened amidst weaker
global ues on a news report that Washington was set to announce new
tariffs on Chinese goods in the latest round of escalation of the
trade conflict.
However, measures announced by the government on Friday, which are
aimed at stemming rupee's fall and narrowing the current account
deficit, failed to cheer investors.
The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) too fell by 137.45 points
to 11,366.90.
The Sensex registered the day's high and low at 38,027.81 and
37,548.93 points, respectively.

The broader markets like BSE Mid-Cap and Small-Cap fell by 0.76 per
cent and 0.05 pc, each. Both these indices outperformed the Sensex.
The market breadth was negative on BSE, as 1,274 shares gained
against 1,455 fell and 185 were unchanged.
The foreign portfolio investors bought shares worth Rs 1,090.56
crore, while domestic institutional investors made purchases to the
tune of Rs 115.14 crore on Friday, a provisional data said.
The Asian share markets slipped on Monday amid reports over
Washington's announcement of a new round of tariffs on Chinese
imports, setting the stage for possible reprisals by Beijing.
MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan dipped
0.26 per cent, snapping three straight sessions of gains.
Australian shares eased 0.2 per cent, while EMini futures for the
S&P-500 were off 0.19 per cent. Treasury futures were little
changed, as were the major currencies.
European stocks were trading lower Monday amid renewed fears over an
escalating trade war between the world's two largest economies.
US stocks ended almost unchanged on Friday, though slight gains were
enough to give the S&P-500 its fifth straight positive session.
