Mumbai, Oct 22 (UNI) Snapping a gaining streak of last six sessions, the BSE Sensex on Tuesday slipped by 334.54 points to 38,963.84 on panic selling in IT services major Infosys along with profit-booking in IT, Telecom, Auto, Industrials stocks.
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) too dropped by 71.95 points to 11,589.90.
The day opened on a negative note at 39,233.40, sliding by 65 points.
Till the end of the session, it lost nearly 374 points to 38,924.85 days low before closing at 38,963.84 down by 334.54 points from its previous close.
The Nifty registered day high and low at 11,714.35 and 11,573.65 points respectively.
The sectoral indices include, IT, Telecom, Auto, Capital Goods, Technology and Industrials pushed the market down however, buying in Health Care, Bankex, Finance, FMCG and Energy capped from further decline, the broker informed.
In scrips, Infosys was the worst hit, down by 16.21 points, followed by Tata Motors DVR, Tata Motors and Bharti Airtel.
Infosys dropped more than 16 pc to Rs 645. The company has received anonymous whistleblower complaints alleging certain unethical practices. These have been placed before the Audit Committee as per the company's practice and will be dealt with in accordance with the company's whistleblower policy.
The announcement was made yesterday.
In the broader market, the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index fell 0.04% while the S&P BSE Small-Cap index rose 0.51 pc on Tuesday.
The market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was almost even. On the BSE, 1263 shares rose and 1293 shares fell. A total of 203 shares were unchanged.
