Sensex ends at 3-wk-high of 29,943.24 pts on global cues

Mumbai, Apr 25 (UNI) The benchmark index of Bombay Stock Exchange(BSE) gained today by 287.40 points to end at a three-week-high of 29,943.24 on stronger global cues.
The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) advanced by 88.65 points to 9,306.60.
The equity market remained positive throughout the day, as the Sensex went up by 170 points to 29,825.14 in early trade.
Till the end of the session, it shot up by 306 points to touch a day's high of 29,961.82, before closing at 29,943.24, advancing by 287.40 points as compared to its last close.
The Nifty recorded a day's high and low at 9,309.20 and 9,250.35 points, respectively.
The sectoral indices like Consumer Discretionary Goods & Services, Telecom, Auto, Bankex and Realty increased that supported the market rally for second consecutive day today.
Scrips of M&M, Axis Bank, Hero MotoCorp and Asian Paints rallied, while selling in Tata Steel, Cipla, Gail India and NTPC capped further gains of the Sensex, brokers informed.
Among secondary barometers, the BSE Mid-Cap index rose 1.06 per cent, outperforming the Sensex. The BSE Small-Cap index edged higher 0.58 pc, underperforming the Sensex.
The market breadth was positive on BSE, as 1,470 shares rose while 1,446 others fell and 164 were unchanged.
The total turnover on BSE amounted to Rs 3,983.47 crore, compared with a turnover of Rs 4,360.76 crore registered during the previous trading session.
