New Delhi, Dec 2 (UNI) Deshbandhu Editor-in-Chief Lalit Surjan passed away here at a private hospital in Noida. He was 74.
He is survived by his three daughters. Surjan was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on Tuesday after he suffered a brain hemorrhage.
"Surjan breathed last at 8:06 p.m. today", his son-in-law Rajiv told UNI. He further informed that Surjan's last rites will be performed at Raipur tomorrow.
Surjan, who also happens to be a Hindi language poet, has been in the field of journalism from past five decades.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel expressed shock over Surjan's demise. "Today Chhattisgarh has lost one of its sons", the Chief Minister remarked as the news of the sad demise reached him.
Mr Baghel, in his condolence message said that, Surjan kept alive the work started by his father Mayaram Surjan and took it forward with great skill. "His (Surjan) deep reverence for Nehruji used to inspire me a lot", Mr Baghel said.
The Chief Minister said that Surjan kept a close watch on politics and had deep faith in democracy. "Under his leadership, Deshbandhu has given dozens of journalists, which both Chhattisgarh and MP can be proud of", the CM said.
