Bengaluru, Jun 3(UNI) Former Union minister and senior Congress leader K H Muniyappa on Wednesday extended his support to former Prime minister and JD(S) National president H D Deve Gowda in the Rajya Sabha polls.
In a statement issued here here, Mr Muniyappa said that party which had an electoral understanding in the Lok Sabha elections, may extend support to Gowda in the June-19 Rajya Sabha elections from Karnataka.
It may be recalled that the Election Commission of India, is conducting elections to Rajya Sabya to fill four vacancies from the Karnataka Assembly, in which the ruling BJP may bag two seats, while the remaining may be won by the Congress and the JD(S).
The seats are being vacated following the completion of a six-year-terms of two Congress and one each members from JD(S) and the BJP.
The Congress members, who are completing their terms are, Rajeev Gowda and B K Hariprasad, followed by Kupendra Reddy (JD(S) and Prabhakara Kore (BJP).
Expressing confidence that party High Command will take suitable decision on the issue, the Congress leader opined that one can not suspect the secular credentials of JD(S) leader Gowda.
Referring to any possibilities of sending Mallikarjuna Kharge to the Rajya Sabha, by the party, he said that “Khargejee also a senior leader and nobody would oppose his candidature if party decided to permit him to contest the RS elections”.
He also expressed confidence that KPCC leader D K Shivakumar and the CLP leader and former Chief minister Siddaramaiah will take a right decisions while recommending names to the Party High Command, as the party nominees.
