Selection thought was occupying my mind: Pant after scoring fifty against RR

Selection thought was occupying my mind: Pant after scoring fifty against RR

Jaipur, Apr 23 (UNI) After helping Delhi Capital (DC) to a six-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the IPL on Monday, India wicket-keeper-batsman Rishabh Pant, who missed the World Cup-bound bus, has said that the selection thought was running in his mind but he backed himself to get his side home.

"I won't lie, the selection thought was running in my mind. But I focused on my process and I trusted my skills and it worked for me," Man of the Match Pant said in the post-match presentation ceremony.

"To make your team win in an important match is a good feeling. The most important things for our team is that everyone needs their role," the 21-year-old Pant added.

He said the pitch was good to bat and he just took advantage of that.

Pant also heaped praises over the support staff.

"Most important thing for our team is that everyone knows our role, and the support staff tells us, this is your role, and this is what is going to happen to you," Pant said.

Pant, who was dropped for Dinesh Karthik in the World Cup team, hit six fours and four sixes during his unbeaten 78 runs knock of 36 balls.

DC skipper Shreyas Iyer heaped praises over Pant and opener Shikhar Dhawan for their performance at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur.

"Shikhar is doing a great job in powerplay and Rishabh finished brilliantly. Ricky Ponting tells us that batsman who gets the start should bat for a long time," DC skipper said.

Talking about their home pitch (Kotla) Iyer termed the pitch 'unpredictable'.

"When we play away from home wickets are so good luckily and it is perfect for our batters. We are unaware of how the wicket is going to play at our home and we are being outplayed at home," Iyer said.

On Monday, with the virtue of the win, DC grabbed the number one position in the points table.
