Security to tighten in UP in wake of Kartik Purnima

Ayodhya, Nov 11 (UNI) In the wake of Ayodhya verdict, the security in the temple town has been further tightened in Uttar Pradesh as over a lakh people will turn up to take holy dip in Saryu as well in Ganga river on occasion of Kartik Purmina bathing on Tuesday.

Additional Director General of Police, (Prosecution), Ashutosh Pandey, the officer specially designated with the job of supervising security measures in Ayodhya in wake of Apex Court’s decision, claimed that he reviewed the security arrangement and all arrangements have been on place to ensure peaceful `Holy Bath’ at Saryu and later for darshan of Ram Lalla on occasion of Kartik Purnima Snan on Tuesday.

Director General of Police, O P Singh, on Monday issued fresh advisory to strengthen security on occasion of Kartik Purnima Snan, Guru Nanak Jayanti, Deva Deepawali etc on Tuesday.

Singh asked the district police chiefs to ensure adequate deployment on all the sensitive places especially where function would be held on Tuesday. He asked that besides deployment of force, the local authorities should ensure undisrupted power supply at Assi Ghat, Kedar Ghat, Dashwamedh Ghat, Harish Chandra Ghat etc as the people would celebrate Deva Deepawali in Varanasi on Tuesday evening.

He further said that people started taking holy dip on Ganga Snan since early morning so all the forces should be deployed much prior to it so that no untoward incident took place.

Meanwhile Singh also informed that keeping a close vigil on social media to avert any efforts to disturb communal harmony, the cops so far registered 56 cases in connection with objectionable messages and had arrested 93 persons in this connection. He claimed that in the last 24-hours, they registered 22 cases and arrested 16 persons.
