Security beefed up in Tripura ahead of R-Day

Agartala, Jan 25 (UNI) Security has been beefed up across Tripura ahead of the celebration of Republic Day following recent spurts of militant activities and threatened to disrupt the celebration, police said here today.
As part of precautionary measures, police have begun checking vehicles on highways and other important roads since yesterday while vehicular mobile foot patrolling has also been done by local police stations.
“Special operations are launched in the interior areas and BSF authority was asked to maintain strict vigil along Indo-Bangladesh border," Asst Inspector General (Law and Order) Subrata Chakraborty said adding that adequate measures have been undertaken for peaceful celebration of 72nd Republic Day.
All the government offices and institutions would hoist the national flag and play the national anthem early in the morning while chief minister will hoist the national flag at Assam Rifles ground and attend the parade of security forces.
Tripura police have stepped up security in all important installations including airport, railway stations and bus terminuses besides, adequate security sanitation of railway lines. Recently, police arrested several NLFT cadres and their collaborators after kidnapping three NPCC workers from the Indo-Bangladesh border.
Moreover, ahead of Tripura Tribal Areas District Council (ADC) elections to be scheduled within next three months, NLFT has reportedly increased its activities in the hills to spoil the free and fair elections and to disturb the peace.
