Second World Toilet College inaugurated in Aurangabad

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Aug 18 (UNI) To improve the health conditions of sanitation workers and to inculcate sense of dignity, the second World Toilet College(WTC) for sanitation workers was inaugurated on Saturday in Aurangabad in Marathwada, Maharashtra.
This is the second WTC college in the country after the start of first such college at Rishikesh, Uttaranchal in 2015.
The college will introduce a two-year programme that will enable the sanitation workers to refine their skills besides improvement of their socio- economic standards with better employment opportunities.
Addressing the media persons, Swami Chidanand president of Parmarth Niketan Ashram said "the workers involved in manual cleaning and handling of sewerage often have critical health issues, however, they continue to work under the circumstances due to financial constraints and socio-psychological barriers".
The public perception about their work as being ‘non-dignified’ and lack of technological substitutes add to their wretched working condition, he further said.
The flagship initiative under RB , 'Harpic-Dettol Banega Swachh India', aims to provide sanitation workers with a dignified livelihood and access to basic rights and improve their self-esteem.
Altogether 5,000 sanitation workers will be trained, he added.
The inauguration event was attended by Jack Sim, founder of WTC, Sadhvi Bhagawati Saraswati, Secretary-General, Globla Interfaith Wash Alliance; among others and senior members of partner agencies.
