Sealdah Court in Kolkata grants bail to Sandip Ghosh, Abhijit Mondal

Kolkata, Dec 13 (UNI) A trial court in the city on Friday granted bail to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital's former principal Dr Sandip Ghosh and Tala Police Station former OC Abhijit Mondal, both accused of tampering murder scene evidence of a lady medic, court sources said.
The Sealdah court granted bail to the duo after the CBI failed to submit a chargesheet against them in 90 days. The CBI said its investigation is on.
The trial court granted them bail on a surety bond of Rs 2,000 each and ordered the accused that they would have to appear before the CBI when they are summoned by the investigation agency.
The two were arrested for alleged conspiracy to erase the evidence at the murder scene where the 31-year-old resident woman medic was found raped and murdered in the morning on August 9, which rocked not only West Bengal but also the whole country.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) granted bail to Ghosh and Mondol after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) failed to submit a chargesheet within the mandatory 90-day period.
However, Ghosh will remain in jail in another case of alleged financial irregularities at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital, the sources added.
Widespread protests erupted across the country and even outside the country, especially where the Indians reside, after the news of horror crime came to light.
The Kolkata police arrested Sanjay Roy, a Civic Volunteer, a day after the rape and murder of the junior doctor.
The Calcutta High Court had directed the CBI on August 14 and August 22 to investigate the case of the rape and murder and financial irregularities in the RG Kar Hospital.
Mondal has been arrested over the alleged delay in filing the FIR in the rape and murder case of R G Kar Hospital doctor.
