New Delhi, Aug 29 (UNI) Claiming that stealth capabilities of the Scorpene submarine stand compromised following massive leak of its secrets data, the Congress today alleged that the Narendra Modi government was in a state of denial and on a cover up mission. Addressing mediapersons here, principal Opposition party spokesperson Manish Tewari alleged that Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar was putting out selective leaks to suggest that operational secrecy has not been sacrificed. "If we rewind back to when this controversy erupted, the first thing Mr Parrikar alluded to was the possibility of hacking. This has turned out to be baseless. After that, the contractor DCNS, tried to shift onus onto India, saying leak may have come from India,' Mr Tewari said. "Later, Mr Parrikar said that no details about the weapons system have been made public. But, journalists, following this story in Australia, said they would take out the details of the weapons system on Monday,' he added. Alleging that the Modi government was sweeping the data leak issue, which has put country's security at risk, under the carpet to hide its failure, Mr Tewari reiterated the charge that the government and navy were not on the same page over the issue. "The info is in possession of those who shouldn't have it. Ever since the story broke, has Modi government asked DCNS that they had a contractual obligation to maintain secrecy,' he said. He also demanded that the government apprise people as to what steps, under the terms of contract, have been taken in order to mitigate the situation. "The DNA of any submarine is its opacity. Every boat has a specific signature. Experts have now said if details about that signature are in the public domain, then the security and safety of that submarine stands compromised,' he said. He then alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was shying away from a Supreme Court-monitored probe or cross-service security audit into the matter. UNI RG SW SB 1949
