New Delhi, Feb 19 (UNI) Supreme Court on Wednesday ruled that the members of subordinate judiciary are not eligible to apply for direct recruitment to the post of district judges, exclusively meant for practicing advocates.
"Article 233 of the Constitution of India, bars candidates who are in judicial service to be considered for appointment by direct recruitment," a bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra said.
The Apex Court held that members of subordinate judiciary are not considered eligible for the appointment as District Judges because eligibility for consideration requires 7 years of continuous practice.
