New Delhi, Jan 28 (UNI) Ending a decade-long tussle, the Supreme Court on Tuesday allowed the introduction of African Cheetah to a carefully chosen location in India, on a plea by NTCA (National Tiger Conservation Authority) in view of the extinction of the native species.
A three-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice of India S A Bobde, ordered the constitution of an expert committee which would be headed by eminent environmentalist Ranjit Singh, to oversee the move.
Apex Court today modified its 2013 order which had prohibited the introduction of African Cheetah.
Approving the 2010 plan of the Centre, the top court today agreed to modify its 2013 order by which it had quashed Government's notification to introduce African cheetah in Kuno Palpur sanctuary in Madhya Pradesh.
