SC lashes out at Delhi Government for not implementing firecrackers ban

New Delhi, Nov 4 (UNI) The Supreme Court on Monday lashed out at the Delhi government for not implementing their order in which it had directed to ban firecrackers during Diwali this year.
A bench comprising Justice Abhay Oka and Justice Augustine George Masih directed the Delhi Government and Commissioner Police to file a detailed affidavit stating what steps were taken to implement their order in which it had imposed ban on sale and use of fire crackers in the capital and NCR.
The court was hearing the MC Mehta case concerning air quality in the NCT of Delhi and stubble burning in Punjab and Haryana.
The Top Court said that it was apparent from the report of CSE that the ban was hardly implemented. The report shows that the pollution level was all time high this year, even more than the years 2022 and 2023.
Even the farm fires were higher on Diwali days, the bench said.
The bench directed the Delhi Government to file an affidavit in this regard and also what steps they propose to take for next year.
The Apex Court asked the authorities to take a call on perpetual ban on firecrackers in Delhi.
Today, the Court also looked into the issues of pollution in Delhi and Pollution created by transport in the National Capital as well as Delhi and Peripheral industries and Entries of heavy trucks in the city.
The issue of open Garbage burnings in parts of Delhi was also discussed in the court today.
