SC grants interim bail to Mamata's election agent

New Delhi, Jan 20 (UNI) Supreme Court on Thursday granted interim protection from arrest to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's Nandigram election agent, SK Supiyan in connection with an alleged murder case.
A bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Justice L Nageswara Rao and also comprising Justice B R Gavai ordered that interim protection be granted to Supiyan.
"Interim protection granted to the accused, petitioner (S K Supiyan), in the present case," the bench of the Top Court said, and fixed the matter for further hearing to January 31.
The Court was hearing an appeal filed by Supiyan, against an order of the Calcutta High Court rejecting his plea.

The murder case is being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), in which, Supiyan is an accused in the case.
The CBI is investigating the killing of a BJP worker in the Nandigram constituency which took place during the post poll violence in West Bengal after the Mamata Banerjee led All India Trinamool Congress won in the State assembly polls in May 2021.
