SC defers hearing in Tablighi case till July 24

New Delhi, Jul 13 (UNI) Supreme Court on Monday deferred till July 24 hearing on petitions filed by Tablighi Jamaat members seeking return of their passports and deportation to their respective countries.
A bench headed by Justice A M Khanwilkar posted the matter for further hearing to July 24. "We defer the matter for further hearing to July 24," Justice Khanwilkar said.
The foreign nationals, who had participated in Tablighi Jamaat congregation had moved the Apex Court seeking deportation & return of their passports.
The Central government today submitted before the Apex Court that many criminal cases against over 2,500 such participants have been lodged for attending the congregation and thus violating the law.
"It is illegal to congregate during the Corona crisis and therefore they have violated rules and regulations as mandated by the Union of India," Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said. He sought a week's time as he would require more time to submit additional documents before the court in the case.
