SC Commission directs ensuring minimum wages, basic facilities for sanitation workers

Palampur, Jan 18 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh Scheduled Caste Commission has directed all civic bodies and concerned institutions to ensure minimum wages and basic facilities for sanitation workers, besides preventing their exploitation by contractors.
Presiding over a meeting held here, Commission Chairman Kuldeep Kumar Dhiman reviewed the facilities being provided to sanitation workers by Municipal Corporation Dharamshala, Municipal Corporation Palampur, all municipal councils and nagar panchayats of Kangra district, Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda, Ayurvedic Medical College, Paprola (Baijnath), and Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Krishi Vishvavidyalaya, Palampur.
Dhiman said the primary objective of the Commission is to protect the constitutional rights of sanitation workers and ensure effective implementation of welfare schemes at the grassroots level. He directed all municipal corporations, municipal councils, nagar panchayats, and concerned health institutions to constitute vigilance committees for sanitation workers at the earliest and submit a compliance report to the Commission within one week.
