Srinagar, Jul 23 (UNI) Facing criticism, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Sartaj Madni has resigned as the vice-president of the party.'
Mr Madni, who is the uncle of PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, said that he has resigned for ‘strengthening, stability and unity of the party’.
“Yes, I have submitted my resignation as the vice-president of PDP to the party president Mehbooba Mufti,” Mr Madni said.
The resignation of Mr Madni comes days ahead of the PDP’s foundation day on July 28, when the party is planning a grand rally in the summer capital, Srinagar, to showcase strength.
PDP has been facing revolt from within the party, with many legislators openly criticizing Ms Mehbooba and her leadership, days after the J&K government fell following a pullout by the BJP from the coalition.
The PDP president after the dissent within PDP has been trying to reach out to the party leaders and workers. She even warned New Delhi of dire consequences if it tried to break her party.
