Santokh Chaudhary pays tribute to Shaheed Beant Singh

Jalandhar, Feb 19 (UNI) Congress Parliamentarian Santokh Singh Chaudhary paid homage to former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh on his birth anniversary here on Wednesday.
The Jalandhar MP along with many political and social dignitaries paid floral tributes to the martyr, garlanding his statue at BMC Chowk here.
Speaking on the occasion, Chaudhary said when Beant Singh became the Chief Minister of the state, it seemed that Punjab would never come out of the shackles of terrorism. “But he took up the challenge and with his sharp vision and good governance put the state back on the road to peace, harmony and development. His relentless endeavours cost him his life, but he never shied away from taking a strong stand. Due to his efforts, terrorism was totally wiped out in Punjab.”
He remembered his time with Beant Singh very fondly calling it a proud privilege to have worked with the great man who sacrificed his life for national integrity and unity.
Prominent personalities present at the occasion included Jalandhar Central MLA Rajinder Beri, District Congress (Urban) President Baldev Singh Dev, Mayor Jagdish Raj Raja, District Congress (Women) President Jasleen Sethi, Councillor Madan Lal Khinder, Senior Congress leader Ashok Gupta, Bhupinder Singh Jolly and Pardeep Rai.
