Washington, August 12 (UNI) Renowned author Salman Rushdie, who facing death threats for years after writing 'The Satanic Verses', has been attacked during an event of the Chautauqua Institution in New York, reports said.
According to reports, a man ran on stage and attacked him.
It is, however, unclear whether he has been punched or stabbed.
A video of the incident being circulated on social media shows people rushing in to attend Salman Rushdie immediately after the incident.
The attacker is said to have been nabbed.
The status of Rushdie's health is not known as yet.
Rushdie’s book 'The Satanic Verses' has been banned in many countries since many Muslims consider it to be blasphemous.
