Sajjan's acquittal sparks outrage: SGPC, SAD demand justice for 1984 victims

Chandigarh, Jan 22 (UNI) The acquittal of former Congress leader Sajjan Kumar in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case has triggered widespread outrage across the Sikh community, drawing strong reactions from the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and senior leaders of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).
The SGPC expressed deep disappointment over the verdict, describing it as “salt rubbed into old wounds” of thousands of families who lost loved ones during the violence.
In a statement, the committee said a person accused of the massacre of innocent Sikhs should have faced the strictest punishment. "The acquittal has added to the lingering sense of injustice among survivors," it said, appealing for collective prayers at gurdwaras, emphasizing faith that Guru Sahib will ensure ultimate justice.
