Sagoo succeeds Sumariwalla as AFI president

Chandigarh, Jan 7 (UNI) Former Asian Games gold medallist Bahadur Singh Sagoo has been elected unopposed as the new president of the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) during its Annual General Meeting (AGM).
Sagoo, 51, takes over the reins from Adille Sumariwalla, who completed three consecutive terms and was ineligible for re-election under the National Sports Code. The election was conducted on Sunday.
A seasoned athlete with a distinguished career, Sagoo’s tenure is set to last four years. His election follows senior vice president Anju Bobby George’s decision to withdraw from the race, leaving him as the sole candidate.
