Srinagar, Jan 5 (UNI) Dozens of far flung and remote villages, including those near the Line of Control (LoC), were cut off from their respective district headquarters after Sadhna and Razdan passes were closed due to accumulation of snow and slippery road conditions. Authorities have deployed sophisticated machinery and men to clear the snow on the roads, including Sadhna pass. Razdan pass remains closed for winter months. Official sources said the border towns of Keran, Karnah and Machil in the frontier district of Kupwara remained cut off with the district headquarter following closure of the Sadhna pass due to fresh snowfall. Dozens of far flung and remote areas, particularly near the LoC, also remained cut off due to several feet of snowfall. Sources said the Razdan pass, connecting the border town of Gurez with district headquarters Bandipora, also received fresh snowfall during the past 24 hours. The road has been closed for winter months only to reopen in March or April. However, the authorities have decided to use the tunnel of the Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) for the passengers stranded at Gurez and Bandipora. The HCC is running a train for transportation of its men and material through this tunnel daily. Now the district administration has decided to use the service of the tunnel on every Sunday for stranded passengers. UNI BAS RSA 0911
